F. NANA OFOSU-AMAAH

F. Nana Ofosu-Amaah was most recently the Executive Director for the Office of Early Childhood at Newark Public Schools, NJ. With the only Federal Head Start Program in NJ Public Schools and the well-regarded NJ Pre-Kindergarten Program, she and her team worked to ensure that every 3- and 4-year old in the city of Newark had access to a high-quality program.

Ms. Ofosu-Amaah previously held various roles at the NYC Department of Education’s (NYCDOE) Division of Early Childhood Education. Her final role was to form and lead the Division’s strategic planning and implementation around Family and Community Engagement. With a multi-channel outreach campaign, she collaborated with city agencies, community partners and the Mayor’s Office to promote Pre-Kindergarten in NYC.

Prior to her transition into education, Ms. Ofosu-Amaah held various positions in the private and non-profit sectors – from high-tech to management consulting to micro-finance, mostly with an international focus. It was her time spent in discussions with women starting small businesses who had shared their experiences about their children’s education that gave Ms. Ofosu-Amaah a sense of urgency to transfer her skills into improving urban education systems.

Steeped in engineering, technology, business, the arts and now education, Ms. Ofosu-Amaah values S.T.E.A.M. education at every age and acknowledges that she is product of S.T.E.A.M. herself. She loves to travel, to spend time with friends and family, to constantly research about her many interests, to enjoy the outdoors, arts and culture, and does her best to keep up with the arts, sounds and moves of Africa.

Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, and with over 30 years in the U.S.A., Ms. Ofosu-Amaah has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University, a Master of Management (MBA) from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and completed the Broad Residency for Urban Education as her transition into education. She is currently earning her Executive Doctorate in Education at Seton Hall University.

Ms. Ofosu-Amaah thrives on bringing all aspects of her being to innovate for current and future generations, especially for children with special needs. She is excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Board of the African Women’s Development Fund – USA.
